New Supermarket Cameras Able To Guess Customers’ Ages. Major supermarkets have started testing an automated age-verification system, to help the staff at checkouts when buying alcohol.
The technology will be trialed using cameras that can estimate a customer’s age.

This is part of a Home Office test of technologies to help with the selling of alcohol.
Asda, Co-op and Morrison’s are said to be installing the system in some areas. The technology is already in use at Aldi’s checkout-free shop in London.

New Supermarket Cameras Able To Guess Customers’ Ages, By customer consent, the camera will estimate their age using trained and specific algorithms.
If it decides they are under the requisite age, they will need to show ID to the shop’s staff.
